What have I learned from receiving feedback?

Throughout the span of weeks 2- 11, I found myself subsequently learning and adapting to constantly receiving feedback from others. Inside and outside of my film group, we have talks, group presentations of our ideas.

I remember the first critical feedback I received for this project happened around week 3. My teammate/art director “Laura” mentioned how my film idea “Trapped” which was finally renamed “The White Room”.The idea reminded her of the genre German Expressionism, due to the choice of style and story aesthetic which was something I learned that week. Another example of my group receiving feedback was around week 5 we had to produce two 2 solid ideas for our short films. After receiving critical feedback and advice from Deborah, about merging our ideas and stories to one as a group. we decided to combine my storytelling idea with Yuyang’s theme which was about keeping your self-independence and not losing yourself and confiding in others.

Therefore I wanted to do more research on how to learn from receiving critical feedback. For example, Georgia Hardavella et al. (2017) discusses how learners can develop even further skills when appropriate feedback is being used.“feedback contributes significantly in developing learners’ competence and confidence at all stages of their professional careers; it helps them think about the gap between actual and desired performance, and identify ways to narrow the gap and improve.” Georgia Hardavella (2017: 327-333)

I think what knowledge I got out of this research material is the importance of receiving feedback and how it can develop and further a person's skill level even higher. Applying this theory to my group work. I realised we as the team worked the most effective after receiving feedback from others as it gave our ideas more of a linear direction which enabled us to work quicker and faster. As with group feedback, we can identify the problems, and come up with a solution faster, than working by ourselves.
